N.E.A.T. – REACH YOUR WEIGHT LOSS GOALS FASTER

With warmer weather, you have a “NEAT” chance to make even more progress toward your goals.


In the fitness world, NEAT is an acronym for non-exercise activity thermogenesis. Simply: This is the energy you burn when you aren’t sleeping, eating or exercising. Think of it as the stuff you do when you aren’t training with us.


NEAT is important because we only get to see you for a certain period of time every week (and we love every minute!). But you spend a lot of time outside the gym, and if you’re generally active, you’re going to get results even faster.


Think about this: Two identical twins have goals of losing a bit of weight and body fat. Both do a great workout. Twin 1 drives home and then doesn’t do much over the next few days before driving back to the gym to work out again. 


Twin 2 does the same workout, then bikes home. Once there, Twin 2 does some yard work in the evening, then goes for a long walk the next day. The second twin bikes back to the gym to train the day after that.


Which twin would have made more progress? And which one would probably be less stressed?


I’d like to encourage you to add in just a little non-exercise activity between training sessions this week. It shouldn’t be stressful or challenging. It should be fun. Pick anything you enjoy and do it. Here are a few suggestions:


• Go for a hike and explore a new area nearby.

• Get your bike on the road and feel the wind in your hair.

• Dig up the garden and plant something.

• Tackle that yard project you’ve been thinking about.

• Take the kids on a bike ride to a new park or playground.

• Walk around your neighborhood and explore parts you haven’t seen.

• Take the stairs at work (and maybe do them twice!).

• Stand up and work or program regular stretching breaks.

• Get on the water with a canoe, kayak or paddleboard.

• Volunteer to help a friend move or renovate. 

• Clean and detail your vehicle.

• Do some outdoor spring cleaning—scrub the windows!


If you like “keeping score,” you can often track these activities with a step counter. And you’ll be amazed how fast steps add up. Warning: checking your step count can be addictive.


The benefits of general activity: You’ll burn more calories, you’ll spend less time on screens, and you’ll be less likely to reach for snacks or alcohol while binging on Netflix for hours. Research has even shown NEAT can help you reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular events. 


So come to the gym and sweat with us regularly. But make outside-the-gym activity part of your lifestyle, too. If you need any ideas for things you can do to stay active, talk to any of our coaches.

I was not active or involved in sports growing up, it wasn’t until my late 30’s sitting behind a desk all day that I recognized the importance of being healthy and active. Being overweight and unhappy with myself I decided to make some changes. I joined a local gym and worked with a trainer on nutrition and exercise. He believed in me, encouraged me and helped guide me on the path to wellness and fitness. Seventy pounds later and much happier inside and out, I am hoping to help inspire others with their fitness and nutrition journey. CrossFit has been a big part of my life for almost 6 years now and I am humbled to be part of this amazing coaching team at Sweat Factory Rockledge. I enjoy working with the Kids program to help encourage them to stay active while teaching proper movements and form. And we can have fun while doing it!

I have always been part of some type of sport since junior high and high school. Basketball, Volleyball, Track. Dance etc. I attended college on a dance scholarship dancing for the Basketball team half time shows then moving on to Professional Ballroom Dance after. I traveled the US competing for 6 + years. Then, yes, I became a mother. Actually a 225 lb mom! I made the decision I would look 21 again no matter the pain and sweat involved. I took up running and with Clint began Triathlons. The next few years we’re full of Triathlons, Marathons obstacle races and Ultramarathons. Including a 50k trail race. I lost my weight, ALL OF IT. And was thin but wanted more tone. Clint gave me a weightlifting routine & proved to me a woman can lift weights and get LEAN and tone. NOT big & bulky. As a Firefighter and a Pro-Women’s Football player, I strive to stay in top physical condition. Nine years ago we found Crossfit. It is the perfect balance of full-body, core strength, endurance and explosive intensity that I need for both of my careers.

After my time playing College Football ended, I became comfortable as a “Couch Potato” for the next ten years. Then I discovered the Body for Life challenge and lost 35 lbs. TWICE! Ask me & I’ll share the story with you. The new me began training for Triathlons. I have competed in over 100 triathlons including 4 half Ironman and 3 full Ironman races, 15 marathons, (6) 50k marathons, and (4) 50-mile ultra marathons. I found Crossfit 9 years ago when looking for something new and fun. Maci and had started a website coaching others in nutrition and exercise. Then we decided to begin our new journey with our own CrossFit Box. My background also includes the study of nutrition in college and I am a retired Paramedic of 28 years.

HOLD POLICY

Month-to-Month Membership Agreements and Annual Membership Agreements: You may place your Membership on hold two (2) times per calendar year up to three (3) consecutive months each time. Advanced notice of at least two (2) business days is required. The hold must be 30 days in duration at a minimum and 30 days must elapse between holds. Upon expiration of the term of the hold, your account will automatically become active and payments will resume. Should you choose to return prior to the end of their hold period, the hold will be released and payments will resume.

CANCELLATION POLICY

All membership agreements require 30-days written notice to cancel your membership. This form will serve as your 30-days written cancellation notice. Note that if you have a scheduled renewal payment within 30-days of your invoice billing date, the payment will be processed as scheduled. Your membership will be canceled at the end of your final paid month. All payments are non-refundable. All grandfathered membership rates will also be forfeited and returning members will be subject to current rates.
